Windows Mail

Have new computer with windows 8. Could anyone please tell me after I thought I had installed windows mail. How do you set it as the default. And do you have to have a Microsoft account to have an email address in windows eight? Thanks.

So far as the Windows Mail Modern/Metro Store app that comes with 8, I don't know if one needs a MS account to use it. Good question. Try opening the Mail app > Charms Bar > Settings > Accounts. See if you can set up an account, whether it be MS or other. I have an MS account and have had one for quite a while, so I really wouldn't know. It will be interesting to know if one needs one or not. This is somewhat new to me so far as MS services.

Thanks, After one week of trying to no avail no progress. Had winmail from vista. I think not supporting pop mail.

Any advice on how I could use my current bigpond email address in Windows 8. Thanks

The mail app did require me to have a Microsoft account which would not accept my email address as valid.

Sorry if the answer should be obvious, but after it appeared I had installed "Winmail" if it was associated with a bigpond pop3 account would that be why it would not open up in windows 8

Could anyone please answer so I can move forward with alternate ways to access my emails. ie use my child's computer until bigpond find some settings, Thanks.

Windows live mail will allow you to set up a pop account and yup do not have to make a Microsoft account to use it. It will ask you if you want one but you can cancel it

You can get WlM by getting Windows live essentials. Prior to install you just check windows live mail and leave the rest blank
