I think I've solved the problem with Google's website (the annoying blue window on top of the page). This will work in Cyberfox - Firefox's 64 bit browser.

1. right-click in the colored area under the address bar.
2. open about:config and un-check the box; click on "I'll be careful......"
3. double-click on browser.search.suggest.enabled (this will change the value from true to false).
4. double-click services.sync.prefs.sync.browser.search.selectedEngine (value changes from true to false)
5. Finally, double-click the listing below the selectedEngine listing.
I only know that this works right now; I will do a restart to make sure that the setting changes will hold.:)

I'll see u in about 30 minutes; I have to go fix a laptop - a program hijacked the browser settings.

Thanks for the tips, it seems to work in my FF 23.01...

Google search/tracking is integrated into Firefox much more than people seems to think. Just search the "about:config" with the keyword of google.
