I was not sure if this was an appropriate entry in this section. I know it is not directly related to Windows 8 but, like it or not, IE10 is the default. There is a surprising lack of interest on the web, regarding this feature.
I have installed Firefox, as a standby, but am using IE10 as much as possible to see if it has any gross
failings. So far, so good.
Has anyone had any bad experiences with it?

Nothing realy bad... just the same issues that I have had with 9. Locks up when starting up for the first time for about 30 sec. The Beta of 9 did the same thing and the issue is still not fixed. Other then that I have not had any issues.

In the non-immersive IE 10, I've experienced lock ups and could not load page errors.

Hi there

IE10 for me using W8 x-32 works absolutely fine -- I always switch it to "Desktop Mode" and ensure the default is to display all menus and toolbars

I have stopped using W8 x-64 for the moment since I have a few problems with two programs that I really need -- Vmwaare Workstation Rel 8 / vmware player rel 4 doesn't work nor does a program I need for "Stock Market trading" == "Equis Metastock".

For serious use of W8 I need to have vmware working -- I use Virtual servers etc.

(Note there is no problem in using vmware V8 / vmplayer v4 on a W7 HOST system to bring up W8 - either version).

Video doesn't have probs either -- Sky GO works properly too as does BBC iPlayer and the UK ITV domestic channels --- Will be watching Eng V France Rugby World Cup 1/4 final in a few moments on a laptop -- Hotel doesn't have UK ITV channels !!

Cheers
jimbo

Hmm... that's interesting. I'd've expected more work would've gone into the x64 version, rather than the x86 version. :/

Hi there

I think it's vmware's software not W8 x-64 . The error you get is something like this

Could not get vmx86 driver version: The handle is invalid. You have an incorrect version of driver "vmx86.sys". Try reinstalling VMware ...

The problem is probably because vmware might still be using a 32 bit driver somewhere and MS won't let 32 bit drivers install on a 64 bit OS.

I'm sure vmware will sort this out in good time.

For a laptop the 32 bit version of W8 is just fine -- runs really quickly even on a very low specced laptop.

The 64 bit version apart from the compatability problems just doesn't seem so snappy --even though the laptop has 4GB memory.

It could be that I need a slightly more powerful machine for testing X-64.

So far I really Like W8 and am using it about 99% of the time for my "Non Work" stuff on my own gear. At work we are still using XP -- and that seems like a Dinosaur now.

Cheers
jimbo

I've noticed that this laptop I am running off works great (it's 6GB RAM @1333MHz). A few jumps every now and then, but that's not even MS's fault, it's older webpages with buggy scripts, and programs with fragments in them.
Boot times are super fast, processing is great, and everything runs like a dream.

But when I was referring to the x86/x64 versions, I was talking about Windows 8. I've noticed that a lot of people are having more problems with the x64 version than the x86 version, particularly in this thread. :p

At first I didn't like it, then I discovered how right click dependent it is. What will be the alternative on a Tablet?
At first I had trouble downloading programs, like Chrome, Adobe reader, but when I used the compatibility mode it worked fine.
It has some issues with Google intensive sites, like Google+, again fine in compatibility mode.
Switching back and forth between Metro and Desktop feels like 2 different OS's, then this is an Alpha.

Yes, we should see major improvements in the Beta version... hopefully.
I'm just surprised at all the problems with the native internet browser to Windows.

Sorry, avalon, been away for a couple of hours. I only use the 32Bit (browser), with a 64Bit isntallation. No problems to remark on that I have not experiences in any previous browsers, except for one. I often get total, and irretrieval, freeze ups if I try to multi task more than one instance of IE.
Jimbo. Only my opinion, but I think the most serious use is obtained through using it either as a fresh install or/and dual boot. Best the latter for comparison.

Internet Explorer 10: An even faster way to download Chrome or Firefox.

At least IE 10 is the first ever version of IE to past the Acid3 test. However, Microsoft should accept that IE isn't the default choice of all internet users any more. Firefox is now more popular, and Chrome is on a steady rise. I say it's pointless effort.

Well that all depends really. We're starting to see more and more good come out of Silicon Valley (like Windows 8), so maybe we might see them do something revolutionary with their browser that would make up the gap.

Frankly, I like the road of "No plugins" that they are taking. Plugins make the Internet slow and borked, and I'd be happy to browse a plugin free Internet, so to speak.

I love the fact that it actually has a spell checker as default now :D

I've been trying to use it as my daily browser in 8. I haven't had a lot of issues with the 'desktop' version. A few oddly rendered sites, but nothing flat out broken yet.

I can't use the metro version though - that's pretty buggy as others have discovered.

I really like where 8>9>10 have gone.

I believe Aida32 has been discontinued. (about 4 years ago)? It is quite an old program and possibly is unable to interpret what it reads, but, instead, takes the closest info from its own database. But that's a guess!! I do know that it did get wrong info, when new.
I don't think there is any dispute as to the authenticity of IE10, is there?
