I am a recent user of Windows 8. Most things are self explanatory or can
be deduced but the default mail program has beaten me. If I select a photo from the photo file and try to send be e-mail the screen shows 'there is no e-mail program associated with this'. I have followed the suggestions about trying to set a program and associations but I am led around in a circle and get nowhere. Any suggestions welcome!

Hi,

This option won't work with the modern Mail app. If you want this option to work, you have to install some desktop software, like Windows Live Mail, Outlook, etc.

Alternatively, you can attach photos from within the Mail app.

The default mail app in Win 8 is the most brain dead mail app I've ever encountered. As Vadikan suggested, install another mail client. I use Windows Live Mail but there are others like Mozilla Thunderbird which is very popular (and free).

Retired in 2015 after working in the tech industry for 41 years. First 10 years as a Technician, the rest as a programmer/software engineer. After 1 year of retirement, I was bored so went back to work as a Robotic Process Automation Consultant. Retired for 3rd (and final) time in 2019.
Thanks both of you. Intractable problem has now become tractable. Installed windows essentials and problem has gone away! Thanks again.
