I have posted a short movie in Flickr. It loads and plays fine in Chrome (my default) and Firefox ( on sisters m/c) but a friend in Israel using IE cannot get it to play. I've tried it with my copy of IE 10 and get same result - it freezes the screen.
What is going on?

Can you provide a link to the movie? It would also be beneficial if we understand how you made the movie (eg, program used) or if it could be downloaded from somewhere would be even better.

movie problem

I composed the movie in MS Moviemaker and published it to Flickr using the programs inbuilt app.
It can be accessed and downloaded from here:

[DEL]OK. I tried to play it in IE10 and received a black screen with just sound so here's what I did to fix my issue:

Checked IE10 version (in manage add-ons) and found it was 11.7.700.224 (not latest)
Went here to download latest flash version for IE10:
Flash Player Issues | Windows 8
Clicked link to download and install the 64 bit version
It then downloaded and installed KB2857645 directly from MS (not Adobe)
Checked IE10 version again - Now 11.8.800.94 (current)
Tried your video again and it now plays fine in IE10!

Now who the heck is going to figure all that out?

This KB was published on 7/8/2013 and I'm guessing it should have been made generally available via Windows Update (or maybe it isn't even available there yet?). Anyway, good luck.[/DEL]

Scratch all of the above comments because it hosed up again. Alternative observation: Works fine with Firefox.

Maybe the issue has something to do with the movie file type you selected for export from WMM?

OK. I finally was able to figure out why I am getting a black screen (with sound OK) when I try to play your movie. FYI, I was prompted to do this additional testing because David reported his IE10 was working OK. So, I am using Avast 8 Free and when I disabled all shields for a test, your movie plays just fine on a consistent basis. Now, I don't understand what the root cause is here but I'm done testing at this point and I'm going to turn my AV back on and do a full boot time scan because something is just not right and I can't tell whether its your movie or my AV. Good luck.

Hi David,

Well, I thought I found the issue but now I look at your screenshot and you are using Avast as well. Time for me to give up on this one.

I use the paid version of Avast with all shields on.

I have latest Flash---

Maybe it's something in your Internet Options--Security or Advanced ?
Maybe not...

I'm OK with all my internet security options but thanks for asking. So, the only difference is I'm using the free version and you are using the paid version; yes? Anyway, this is the only video I've encountered that reacts this way (same as OP reported) so I'm good to go as I only needed access to this video for testing. Unfortunately, I was unable to come up with a global solution for his problem; however, if he is using Avast Free, then maybe he needs to post his issue in the Avast forums. Either way, I have concluded my testing of this issue.

Cheers

Do you or the OP have both 32 & 64 bit Flash ?

I'm done now too. :)

solution

FYI: I am using Windows Defender only.

Thanks for taking an interest anyway.
I can play it to my hearts content - but as far as I'm concerned its another nail in MS IE's coffin!

Byeeeeeeeeee!

Problem resolved by resetting IEs Internet Options Advance Settings to default values.
Video now runs smoothly.
Thanks guys.
