Is the only way to send a site's 'page or link' by email opened on the Start screen is to select the 'View on desktop' & send it from there?

Actually I've found out you can send a link of the page on the screen when on the Start screen. Open the 'Charmsbar', select 'Share' & then 'Mail'.

Actually I've found out you can send a link of the page on the screen when on the Start screen. Open the 'Charmsbar', select 'Share' & then 'Mail'.

Before I gave up using the Metro apps, I tried using the Share on the Charmsbar. The problem is the link in the email will only open using a Windows 8 machine.

What's up with that? Does MS think everyone has moved to W8?

Are you having problems opening the link in another OS, device, and/or browser? I experimented in the Immersive IE10 and sent the link to today's Bing home page in an email to myself via "Share" in the Charms Bar. I then closed out IE, shut down, and booted up in 7 (I dual boot). I opened WLM there to get the email and was able to use the link to open the page in IE. (Snip below) I also opened it up via the same email on my Droid X2 with no problems.

I believe it is actually a hyperlink. Could it be your Chrome browser? What exactly did you try to open it up on/with?

I just do it the old fashioned way.
I open gmail & insert an image or attach a file.
Or a link.
It is simple to do.Not complicated.

But that's the way I first learned to send things.
I have it down pat.

I have the option to right click & send by email but never use it.
I like the old ways better. :)
They are easier(to me).

I was reading a article in the News app, and wanted to send the link to a friend. I opened Share/email and there was a link in the email. Below the link in a smaller font was a line saying something about the link would open on Windows 8 computers. So I sent the email to myself and opened it using W7. The line saying the link would open using W8 was also in the email I received and would not open.
Maybe there is a way to find a link in the News app so you can paste in into a real email client, but I didn't notice it.

I started trying to use the Metro apps but most seem to be rather lame. I have a limited daily cap with my satellite ISP and it appears a lot of apps are constantly accessing the net and wasting my daily cap. I have uninstalled most apps and am happy to use the desktop programs.

@medab1 - I'm with you on doing things the old fashioned way. I may be an old dog, but I can learn new tricks, but I don't see the point in using the new "features" in W8.

I'm glad it's working for you!

When I do the same thing the link is preceded with the "If you have Windows 8...

snip1.JPG

When you try to open the link using W7, it asks what program to use and the link only works with W8 apps.

I must be doing something wrong!
