Solved New to WIN 8 - stumped - a few urgent Qs

1) I downloaded iTunes and it is nowhere - I did a search on my computer and also looked in Downloads folder and it is not there. There is no "Downloads" progress bar or window anywhere - how do I find?
2) Is there a way to import email contact list from WIN XP to this? If no, could I get assistance in creating a contacts list, please? I suspect it is set up under the "People' tile....
3) Is there NO "change view" option in WIN 8 Mail? The whole page seems to be spread out way more than necessary, with far more space being taken by each email; is there no way to eliminate the email message pane, as in older OS?
4) THIS is nuts: after setting up my email account (I did use OE) I open it up and on the left is the list of folders; in addition to Inbox, Outbox, Sent, etc., there is a long listing of folders labeled with months - since Feb 2006 and through Dec 2009. (I did not save emails on my server, and have NO idea where these "pre-created folders came from.) They are all empty and I want to delete them. There seems to be no way to delete them.

This is only the beginning of my "quick please, before I lose my sanity" questions in regard to this new OS. Thanks for any assistance.

What browser did you use?

I don't know if it's the best way to do, but you can try...

    Some wired stuff
Usually both IE10 and Chrome dump all new downloads into the "Downloads" folder. Unless it was an incomplete download. Check the "Downloads" box of both browsers. If you used Firefox, well I can't help you with that, someone else may - I don't use it cos Chrome works well for me.

If you used Chrome, it may have completed but it might still be located in the place where the Partial downloads go, in the Browser Cache - And I am not sure where Chrome saves this stuff.

Also, when looking through our User folders, make sure you are using the right user, there are several accounts on any given installation of Windows 8.

If you are trying to import the old Outlook email files, you have to first make an "Export" - And when you do that process, you have to choose the fields you want for all account settings, there are hundreds of fields. I usually choose them all even though only a handful are ever used.

Then you should be able to import the mail files into Windows Live Mail.

Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
Thanks - a couple of comments to clarify -
1) I used Firefox (Mozilla) to DL. Incidently, I re-downloaded, only to find upon install was given an error msg stating it "will not work with this computer". WHAT? New WIN 8, and newest version of iTunes?
2) We set up only one user account on this (new) computer...
3) WIN 8 Mail, according to other searches I've done, apparently is not the same as Live Mail.

Thanks. Not enjoying this but I'll keep trying - if I was a drinker I'd be soused by now.

I downloaded it from iTunes.com - twice. Got the same msg twice. There's an article on CNET about WIN 8 incompatibility, that Apple was holding back on a compatible-for-8 version. (I forgot to notice the date though; it must have been prior to release of the compatible version.) It made sense, because two (completed) DLs failed to install here. I'm on a different computer now, and no time to mess with it again this morning. Might get to it tomorrow evening...thanks.
