    That's basically it.
Here they are talking about the same issue:
IE 10 WILL RUN ONLY AS ADMINISTRATOR, LINKS FROM EMAIL WILL NOT - Microsoft Community

You can also try to disable/ reboot and re-enable the browser again from the features but some plugins, security settings or AV program might be causing the issue, look into that first, see solutions in first link.

Here's where you find the feature window (don't mind the example is Win7 because the menu's are identical in Win8) just in case:

Cool

Method 1:
a. Open Internet Explorer.
b. Go to Internet Options, click Advanced Tab and then go to Security section.
c. Check "Enable Enhanced Protected Mode".
d. Click Apply, and close Internet Explorer.

Did it ! :thumb:

Thanks.

In Win 8, I do not have that box checked yet I click on MSIE 10 and it opens and functions fine. All defaults are selected.
Should I check that box you refer to for any special reason? I was browsing the forum here and this peaked my interest.
Thank you

This is what I see by default and IE it's working fine.

You mean you can use IE10 without that highlighted item checked?
I've never seen that before. You might verify some details... version...

But if it's working fine, don't bother to check the list.
In case you do check and apply it, a reboot will be needed.

Cheers!

PS: In case people also notice the folders being green in the picture above and that they don't see that on their machine: I applied one of Shawn's great tutorials: Folder Icon - Change Windows 7 Default Folder Icon - Windows 7 Help Forums

I hope I have uploaded the picture so you can see my setting which is unchecked by default unless someone changed it on me. My pc is running fine.
I set the protected mode in the security tab by selecting the default in each of the four places. Only internet and restricted have protected mode by default and the other two do not have protected mode.
Should I keep it as is?
Peter

We're talking about different settings here (I thought you mean the Windows features).

For the IE settings I also didn't modified anything (default: enhanced protected mode is off). If it's working fine then you don't need to modify anything.

You can turn protected mode on if all works fine afterwards.
Info about enhanced protected mode:
Features and Tools in Internet Explorer 10

That's all.
