Will try and make this short and sweet. I had windows 7 and outlook express on it. The computer crashed. I had to get a whole new computer with windows 8 and just outlook. I have a folder with all my old outlook express emails in it but it is not compatible with outlook and I NEED an email in the old outlook express file. How the heck can I get this? When I try to open the old files it says " must be opened with outlook" Can anyone help me with this.

How did you get Outlook Express to run in Windows 7? Not supposed to be possible.

If you have a copy of Windows XP laying around you could install it as a virtual machine and then maybe open your Outlook Express mail files in it.

PST files are from Microsoft Outlook, not Outlook Express.

Microsoft Outlook is part of the Microsoft Office line of products and doesn’t come as standard with Microsoft Windows. Are you sure you have Microsoft Outlook installed on your new computer? If so, you need to import the PST data file from within Outlook. For example in Outlook 2010, you go to File > Open > Open Outlook Data File and select the PST file you want to import.

One thing I would strongly recommend though is to make a copy of the PST and store it somewhere safe as a backup. That way, if something goes wrong whilst importing, you will still have the original file that you can make another copy from.

I imported my Outlook Express saved folders and address book from XP into Windows Live mail but they were in file extension.dbx.

I had the same problem, but I use MiTeC Mail viewer from mitec.cz
Excellent,
I can open any of the emails, in any of my many folders.
