Can anybody please tell me what two of the symbols at the bottom of the 'Mail' email screen do. Namely 'Sync', (what happens when you select it?) And 'Move', (when I select that, the whole email screen goes a white color). So how do you operate it & what is it supposed to do?

Thanks for that medab, I understand now & successfully got the 'Move' icon working.
Kari, when I select a specific email title, right-click, & select the 'Sync' icon, where is it supposed to send it to. I have 'Skydrive' on the Start screen, & also on the 'Desktop', but I can't find an email I 'Synced' anywhere. ???

Mail App and your original question have nothing to do with SkyDrive. I really do not understand what you mean. Of course you do not find your emails on SkyDrive.

The correct answer to your question is as told in my previous post. Pressing the Sync button sends and receives email messages.

If you have set up an email account to be constantly online, the Sync button is basically useless for you. But as it is possible to set up mail accounts only to receive new messages manually or with certain intervals, pressing the Sync button makes contact with your email server and checks if there are any new messages. If yes, these messages are then brought to Mail App.

If you have set an interval or manual receive as opposite to constantly online (As Items Arrive), new messages are only checked following the rules you set. Let's say you have set every 30 minutes but you are desperately waiting an important email, you can click the button to see if it has arrived even if it not yet 30 minutes from the last check.

When you click the Sync button, you can see top right of the screen that it is working, syncing your messages i.e. receiving new unread messages and sending those still in the outbox.

I really do not know how to explain this any simpler.

Kari

    Touchscreen,
You are welcome. The Mail App is one of those native Windows 8 apps that Microsoft really needs to rethink, so many important features are missing completely while others hidden behind illogical clicks.

the app's gotten a lot better since just a few weeks ago. the latest version is pretty nice. still needs more features. but it's getting there. miles ahead of where it was when windows 8 launched.

I like Windows 8 very much and prefer to use its native tools whenever possible. I am using Outlook 2013 for emails but have also set up my email accounts on Mail App as I like the live tile and mail notification features. In fact I have 14 mail accounts set in Mail App, IMAP and Exchange.

2013-05-03_231546.png

However, it has its flaws. Just one small example: Try to save an image which is embedded in the message, not attached to it as an attachment. It's a no go, no way to do it. You need to take a screenshot in order to save embedded images, or search the mail folder for images (they are saved separately so deep a normal user never finds them) to find the right one and to move / copy it to Pictures.

Windows 8 is a great OS for me as a heavy duty geek and an IT pro. However, some of its elements and features are not ready yet.

Kari
