Solved Cannot run "modern" IE10

I only use IE for MSN Games and I use a couple of add-ons so I wasn't much interested in the UI version of IE10.
Out of curiosity I deecided to give it a try; so I made sure IE10 was default browser etc etc and then clicked the IE10 tile on the start screen: all I get is a nice blue screen with the "e" logo in the centre.

You might see if turning off (uncheck) "Internet Explorer 10" in Windows Features, click OK, restart PC, turn on (check) "Internet Explorer 10" in Windows Features, click OK, restart PC may toggle it to work again.

You may need to check again to make sure IE10 is set as the default program with all of it's associations afterwards first.

Due to other events I have had to re-install Windows.
That solved the problem.
However the "other circumstances" have me a little puzzled and worried.
I started using Acronis True Image a while back and it seems that each time I do a recovery I hit another snag.
First snag was access permissions being lost after recovery.
This time when I went back and recovered to a previous point in time all kind of funnies popped up:-
The Windows "start" screen had only two tiles, but the desktop was fine, but nothing would run.
It seemed as if all the program files were screwed up.
I run both Malwarebytes and aVast Internet Security and according to them my system is a pure as the driven snow.
To make things worse I had recently bit the bullet and removed my W7 system.
The Acronis techies seem to think the issue lies with W8.
I guess I may need to conduct periodic recovery tests to ensure all is well.

Sorry it took a reinstall.

You might experiment with the built-in system image feature to see how it may work for you.

Having forked out $$ for Acronis and given its rep I'm reluctant to give up on it.
I'm sure there is an explanation.
Perhaps W8 is still a bit bleeding edge.
Luckily my data is unaffected.

which version of Acronis do you have? do you have the 2013 edition?
