Thunderbird wont send mails?

Hi,
I have a problem with TB:
It starts and gets mail from all my accounts, but when i try to send mails nothing happens!
No window opens to write the new mail in or any error message or anything.
I have no probem by sending mails from win 8's Mail.
I upgraded from win 7, where I used TB with no problems and to keep my mail archives, I'd like to continue to use TB.
Is it possible to remove "Mail" and only use TB?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I too, upgraded from Win7 however functionality has not changed with Thunderbird. I can send and receive mail from all 6 accounts I have setup. 4 x POP3, 1 x IMAP & 1 x Exchange. Now, I did have to re-authorize the Exchange account because the server saw the computer as a new device after Windows 8 was installed.

I don't think the re-authorizing will help, because Win8's "Mail" has no problem getting the mails from the server?
