Some websites (one in particular) not loading... but...

Hey,

Just got a new laptop in the past few days - HP Pavilion g6-2213sa.

For some reason there's one website in particular that won't load for me - a webmail login service. It won't load on any browser (Chrome, Firefox, IExplorer), but it does work on my phone which is connected to the same wifi network, and it does work my old laptop, also connected to the same wifi network.

I've installed java and shockwave and all the rest of it on my new system, but the website still won't load. Here's the error I get on chrome:

The webpage at https://www.fasthosts.co.uk/login/webmail/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
Error 103 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_ABORTED): Unknown error.

Here's the error I get on Firefox:

The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

The thing is, my laptop will load most other pages (although, have to say, it seems quite a bit slower at doing so than my previous laptop), and it's definitely not a website issue as it works on other devices on the same network.

Any tips?

https://www.fasthosts.co.uk/login/webmail/ site certainly active, and needs no java, flash or even cookies to display. Don't know if this will help in your case, but it's sometimes helps to try a ctrl+f5 refresh when a website is 'stuck'.

Thanks for your response. Still not working, and ctrl+F5 doesn't do anything to alleviate the problem.

This is so strange... all other webpages are loading for me, but not this one, yet can still reach it on my old laptop, my phone, my girlfriend's laptop, and even through Ubuntu which I have dual booted on the new computer - all on the same network with the same browsers and similar/same browser settings.

I really have no understanding of what could be going on here!!!

Try with the windows firewall (or any other firewall) disabled. Then am out of ideas. Good luck.

This happened once with me logging on to my Tesco mobile account, if I tried to access the site on anything using my broadband including mobile phone the site would not open, if I disabled Wifi on my mobile phone and used 3G it would load the page. Sky broadband could not find the fault and blamed the Tesco website and vise versa, in the end it just sorted it's self out so I suspect a compatibility problem with the website and broadband provider.

I did a fresh format and install of Windows 8 64 Bit Pro. Sorry but I couldn't live without a start button so I have installed the Start8 start menu which is great. I try sometimes not to use it but find metro frustrating to find programs as I have many. I will use Metro for apps only and desktop of serious computing.
Have you tried the compatibility view?

Just decided to hang it and do a complete factory reset of the machine to try to sort out this and other issues (after 4 days ownership... bit of a disgrace).

Fortunately the website now seems to be loading. I guess I will never ever know what the problem was... typical Windows.

Annnnnddd.... we're back to not working again. Don't understand - did a factory reset last night, installed chrome, and it worked. Didn't do anything else - no updates, no installations, nothing. Shut it down, start it up again today - and it's not working again :mad::mad:.
