Unable to run Java

Hi!

Sites that use Java do not open in IE10. I have the latest version installed. Java shows as enabled in Internet Options, and in Java Control Panel. I read somewhere that the solution was to reinstall as Administrator; which worked. Until I rebooted - then it stopped working again, and reinstalling as Administrator no longer helps. Besides it's silly to have to reinstall every time I reboot. I've added the Java sites to the Trusted zone, and made sure everything is set to enabled there. Still doesn't work.

I can open the sites in Chrome though. Including the installation checker at java.com. It says 'Java needs your permission to run'; after clicking 'Always allow for this site' it works just fine. But no such popup shows up in IE. I'm assuming that's the problem, the popup doesn't show. How can I force it to show, or manually do whatever it's supposed to do??

java is being blocked by Microsoft, Apple, and Mozilla due to security issues. if you really need Java, there are workarounds and other options.

try uninstalling the java you have now in Programs and Features, reboot the computer and reinstall the latest java at java's website
java.com: Java + You

see if that helps, and from what I am told Java is not being blocked unless you have physically blocked it in yor web browser

Hi!

As I said in my first post, that worked the first time I had the problem. But not now. And it is silly to have to reinstall Java every time you boot... Looking for a hack to enforce that popup thing, which is what makes the difference.

no, but your java could be corrupted, that is why i am telling you again to reinstall it and reboot the computer
The web browsers should not be blocking it unless you set them to block java. Are you sure you did not disable Java in IE ?
Have you downloaded and installed Firefox and see if you have the problem there also?

Please read my first post carefully. I have reinstalled. It is not disabled. It works fine in Chrome so it can't be corrupt.

What antivirus are you running?

Microsoft/IE is NOT stopping you running Java (Post #2) but some third party virus programs are either blocking, or issuing a warning.
Presumably, you do have it enabled in the "Manage add ons" options?

Use several different computers during a day, so specs are irrelevant.
Yes, Enabled in Manage Add-ons (except for Sun Java Console which disables itself right after you enable it - it was disabled the last time it worked too), as well as Internet Options and Java Control Panel. No antivirus - just Windows Defender.

Significantly, I have never had one single security or stability issue that had anything to do with Java.

Even more significantly, I've never met anyone who has.

No doubt issues do exist, but IMO have been, and are being blown out of all proportion.

A bit like the 'security issues' with Desktop Gadgets that never actually eventuated.

Wenda.

as we all have said unless you made a change in the browser, microsoft will not stop java, so unless you need ie desperately try installing firefox and use that when you need java.

Well. I said it in my earlier post. I am not a gamer, but have several shortcuts to online games in Flyordie, for relaxation. These are mostly java based. I use IE as my default, and have not been stopped from entering those games.
