Hello
I need to 'file' 'send link or page by email' feature as well as mail that will open a hyperlink while reading an article I wish to respond to.
I have used Windows Essentials for years for this.
I am confused about my choices and how to implement them. I do not have Outlook.
If I use the Win 8 Mail do I go to default programs and click on default programs>associate a file type and click on send mail to >change settings and choose mail?
I am using WLM but it is part of Win Essentials which is causing trouble with my pc and I think is being phased out.
If I use Thunderbird, must I be using Firefox as the browser or can I still use MSIE 10?
To satisfy the two needs I listed in the beginning, what is my best choice and how do I implement it.
Peter

I have been using Windows Live Mail in both Windows 7 & Windows 8 and never have any problem so I am sure what kind of problem you have. I also use Firefox (latest version 18.02) and unfortunately, the right click context menu option to send mail for link/page has been taken out since version 16. However, with firefox, you can install an add-on called "Email This" and when you right click on the link or page, it will have an option "Email This" and allow you to select the default email such as Gmail, Yahoo mail or Mail client installed in Windows.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for replying.
I am using WLM on my pcs now and hope it stays that way.
Please help me out with my conception of default mail.
If I want to change my mail>'File Send mail as link' as we are discussing, don't you go to default programs, >file associations>"mail to>and change programs?
I did that to try it but WLM remained my default email. I even changed the default to 'Mail' but WLM stayed the default. S
So first, is it true that each browser has its own mail?
Secondly, how do you change from WLM to Win 8 mail, IF you wanted to.
Thirdly, could you use Thunderbird with Win 8 if you wished to, and how?
I really want to get a better understanding than I am getting from Google as everything else seems to be going well.
Thank you
Peter
P.S. I don't know about you but I had to download Essentials to get WLM. Then I indicated, during the download, which I wanted, or not.

For what you are trying to do here, just select the last option (Mail-To this (Win/OSX/...), a little popup will prompt you to select your mail client, just select Windows Live Mail or Windows 8 Mail and firefox will remember it from there on.

Browser does have its own email and it will open the email link for you to login and send email thru the browser.

Sorry, I never use Thunderbird so I cannot answer this question but I would assume that you just download and install it.

The bottom line finally sunk in. Each browser has its own mail. It is not the OS.
Thank you

Essentials solved

I have some relieving news for you. First, thank you for your patience.
I will look into Outlook.com.
But anyway, I persisted with the Issue with Essentials and found the problem and the solution so I hope anyone reading this will benefit if they too have issues with Essentials that I have been reading about.
I went to my libraries and right clicked pictures. Then I clicked "default.
I opened the Windows photo gallery that I reinstalled for the 5th time but this time, all the icons were gone and it functioned normally.
Setting the library to default set the gallery straight so I am utilizing the Windows Live Mail as my email client and the Essentials Photo Gallery for my photography work.
It took a long time but I am relieved it is functioning. The 'why' was pestering me.
Regards,
Peter
P.S. Any tips as to how one converts outlook.com to the default email client?
