How do I associate an email program to the snipping tool

How do I go about associating an email program to the snipping tool in Windows 8. When I try to send the snip via email I get the message that an email program is not associated with it. I could use a detailed description. Not as good as I used to be doing this since the stroke.
I had no problems sending a snip using windows 7. I did not have to associate an email program to it.

I have never seen the "associate" terminology before. If I want to send a snip, I attach it to an email message I have typed. The snip will be sent when the email message is sent. You may need to search for the attach function. In this regard, what email program do you use?

Thank You for your help. My wife is doing this now but was able to send a snip using the send mail function using the snipping tool under windows 7. She misses the ease of use of not having to go into an email program and attaching the file. When using the snipping tool under windows 8 the email function is still there but when you try to use it you get a message that it needs to be associated with an email program. Windows 8 is a total pain but life goes on. Again, thank you for your help

Do you have an email program set up on Windows 8 as your default email program? I think the snipping tool just picks up whatever the default email app is you've selected for Windows.

Your are very welcome. I looked at help--found the following:

    "Send files in email

To send a file as an attachment, open an app such as Mail, create a new message, select to add an attachment, and then browse to the location of the file.

If your PC is running Windows 8, you can also install and use a desktop email app, such as Windows Live Mail or Outlook, to send files in email. With a desktop email app installed, you can send a file to a mail recipient directly from File Explorer. Select the file in File Explorer, tap or click Share, and then tap or click Email."

When/where do you see the "associate" terminology? I can't see what mbratch is referring to above when using the snipping tool.

Thanks. And, wow. I am missing something. I have never, in years of use, seen a snipping tool menu like that.

cgdunn: I will keep looking into the matter, but right now I am at a loss. I hope someone else comes along soon to help.

Open control panel then click on Default program, look for the email program that you want to associate then click Set this program as default. For example: I select my Default Email is Windows Live Mail

I may be wrong, but it just seems to me that you don't have a mail program default associated with the task you want to do. It has nothing to do with associating a mail program with the snipping tool, but with the action you're attempting (which is used by lots of programs). If so, all you should have to do is go to your Win8 Control Panel and then to the Default Program group. Click "Set your default programs" then find your email program in the list and click on "Set this program as default."

This tutorial I wrote may help:
