Importing Messages from Outlook Express, to Outlook

    Hi all,

I recently got a new windows 8 computer. I previously had XP. My XP machine had Outlook Express installed. My new Windows 8 machine has Outlook 2007. I would like to import my messages from my XP computer into my new W8 Computer.

I have exported the messages from OE and they are .DBX . How can I add the .DBX files to Outlook? I have have tried many different ways, but none have worked.

    Thanks

    William

I do not think you can use the DBx files but take a look at this

I have tried this twice. Step 6 doesn't make sense.

On the computer where Outlook is installed, open Outlook Express. If prompted to create an e-mail account, click Cancel.

It expects you to have them on the same computer even though you selected

When Outlook and Outlook Express are installed on different computers

Can you still get on the xp computer?
    If yes
you can open outlook and do an import from outlook express once it does this you can now backup the pst file in outlook. Save it to an external HD or flash drive. Then in outlook on the new machine do an import of this file

I have a similar problem to this except that my new pc is Win8., bought in the last few weeks. I have looked at the Msoft help pages, called the "support" line of the supplier of the new pc, Googled the problem, and all no joy. The general guidance that I find is - install Win Live Mail on old pc, Import dbx files into it, xfer files to new pc, import them into Outlook, but it's not working for me. I can't even get as far as a succesful import into Win Live Mail. Five tries so far, each time with different results. Any pointers please ? Old m/c is WinXP SP 3.

Didn't want to put Outlook on the old pc and never wanted to try. OE on the old pc wouldn't export (MAPI errors), WLM (importing) when on the old pc gave different results each time. Ended up by putting WLM on the new pc (which I didn't want to do), copying the Outlook folders using a stick onto the new pc, importing them into WLM and then from WLM into Outlook. Still haven't got all the old emails, anything very old is not imported by WLM. Different results with WLM on the old pc I assume due to the pcs low spec.

New to Forum! Having same issue, using Windows 8.1, no access to XP machine, as the hard drive froze, can get the drive to be recognized. Cannot get Outlook to import the dbx folders copied to a separate folder on the desktop. I agree with pillyg, the process having on different computers as per microsoft site, does not work. Can anyone help?

Update! Also, will Outlook import the OE folders so the messages stay intact within the folders, or will the folders be lost? Where does Outlook put the imported folders/messages?
