I need IE 8 do I have to virtualize?

We use Siebel for work that only works on IE 8, if I use it on 9 or 10 it works but I can't save opportunities and our IT team said it only works on 8 or earlier. I hate having to use virtualization just for IE, is there any options for running IE 8 on Windows 8? Changing it so the browser shows that it's IE8 doesn't do anything, any options? Thanks!

IE8 and 9 wont even install on Windows 8. Microsoft wont allow retrograde installations such as that for security reasons. Have you tried setting IE10 to always use Compatibility View?

I pulled this from a Microsoft MVP post in MS Forums:

If webpages don’t display correctly in Internet Explorer 10 Consumer Preview, you can view the website in Compatibility View in Internet Explorer 10 Consumer Preview on the Desktop.

To do this, swipe up from the bottom of the screen, (if you’re using a mouse, right-click on the webpage) and then tap or click the Page Tools button on the bottom of the Internet Explorer 10 Consumer Preview window and tap or click View on the desktop.

The webpage will open in Internet Explorer 10 Consumer Preview on the Desktop.

Next, to turn Compatibility View on, tap or click the Compatibility View button to make the icon change from an outline to a solid color .

If you have a site or a page that doesn't look right with Internet Explorer 10 Consumer Preview, you can submit that site for investigation.

Click the following link to get to the submission form.

If that doesn't work then it's up to the software manufacturer to make it work.

You could also try making the software run in Compatibility Mode with earlier systems: Compatibility Mode - Use in Windows 8

I actually managed to get it working. Compatibility view didn't work, but I noticed when I press F12, it lets me pick browser mode, and document mode. On the Siebel site it would have document mode set to IE5 view or something, so I changed that to IE7 and it immediately worked. It's a little glitch but works for the most part.

The main issue with IE9 or 10 in Siebel is when we add products to Orders, if we click the big customize view, it pops up a special screen for our company where we pick all the options for a product. However in IE9 and 10, this view is completely different, showing new options to pick and missing others that are required. Either way seems to work now thanks!

That's interesting. Maybe you should get on to Oracle's case about an update for Siebel? Anyway glad it's working. sort of. I tried Googling this and it appears you aren't alone.

Oh it's not Siebel, it's updated it's my company which I won't post here but one of the largest companies in Canada. They're just running Siebel 7, I think the latest is Siebel 10 or something, 8 and onward work on any web browser but 7 only works on IE8 max.
