IE in Metro Mode versus Desktop Mode

OK, I was fooling around with IE 10 and at some point it got into a state where it only starts in desktop mode. I followed some directions for how to select the mode, but my mode choice is greyed out for some reason. Any idea why?

    Hello mbratch,

Do you mean the settings in the tutorial below?

    https://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...ktop-ie10.html

If so, double check to make sure that Internet Explorer is set as the default program with all of it's associations, then reopen these setting to see if they are no longer grayed out.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Thanks Shawn. Yes, that's the option. And you pinpointed the problem probably: I have another browser installed which I set as the default. I will check on that. Not sure why it would force IE in desktop mode if another browser is the default.

That sounds like the issue then. Anytime Internet Explorer is not the default program, the IE10 Metro version gets disabled until IE is made the default program again.

What's the logic behind it behaving that way?

Got me. You would think that they would be able to have more than one Metro browser available, but nope.

I'm sure they got their reasons whatever they may be.

HI. This is bout why IE11 in metro mode is so slow going backwards. I have a Surface RT 8.1. I use IE11 both in metro mode and on the desktop. Because I have a comparatively slow broadband (2.5 at best) I am used to many websites taking a few seconds to load. That's ok. On the desktop version...
