Windows 8 browser goes to windows 7 format. please help!

Ok, when i first got windows 8 it worked fine, but now whenever i'm on the windows 8 start screen and click on either Internet explorer or Google chrome, it automatically transfers on to the windows 7 desktop format instead of the windows 8 format browser?

Does anybody know how to change this so it always stays on the windows 8 format?

will be much appreciated, Thank you

Hello Hannah, and welcome to Eight Forums.

In order to have the metro version of a browser to work from the Start screen, it's desktop version must be set as the default program with all of it's associations. Otherwise, as you have seen, the tile from the Start screen will open the desktop version instead.

    Hope this helps,

Hi Shawn. Thank you for trying to help. I'v followed the steps on the link, but once I'v chosen Google Chrome>'Set as default'>'ok' It just goes back to the previous page? therefore it is still the windows 7 format?

Do you have any other suggestions?
    Thanks

What happens when you set Internet Explorer as the default program?

Do you have the IE10 Metro version available on the Start screen afterwards instead of the desktop version?

I am confused about what you mean above. Are you saying that you have selected Chrome as default, but, then, when you click Chrome on the Win8 start screen, the result is the same as though you had opened Chrome from the Win8 Desktop?

If Chrome is the default browser and it is opening on the desktop, you will need to go into the Chrome menu and select (I believe) open in immerse mode or open in Windows 8 mode (or something along those lines).

Shawn, thank you believe i am so close to getting it to work now, however I went on the IE10 metro version and tried to download Google Chrome, but instead of downloading Chrome, it deleted the IE10 metro off of the start screen?
Do have any ideas how I could overcome this?

Did it replace the IE10 Metro tile with the Chrome tile?

Kebero thank you so much for your help, I think I have done it! yey!

I was just wondering, please could either of you put a picture/print screen of how the windows 8 format of Chrome should look, just to check that mine is right?

Would be much appreciated, thank you so much!

    Hannah,

This is the Chrome and IE10 icons I have on my Start screen when Chrome is the default browser.

It appears that you need to click on the Chrome menu button, and click on the Relaunch Chrome in Windows 8 mode/Desktop option to go back and forth between Chrome Metro and desktop mode.
