Got tired of the start screen email app real quick, went out and downloaded windows essential pack which includes mail.

Program is a work of art, added all my accounts with just a couple of clicks, personal imap accounts, microsoft accounts and even my yahoo pop account (needs to be yahoo mail plus account, which i have for like $20 a year).

Each account has its own set of folders and each account can be given a color, the ribbon menus on top are great and offer multiple options for your emails.

Reader can be completely customized with many different views, custom column headers, etc.

Can all this be synced to other accounts, and devices who knows, I really am not into that so for me this is the perfect email app

I have been using Live Mail since Windows 7 came out in 2009. I like the Calender Pane under View as it shows the Monthly calender and the next 5 events that I have scheduled in a small window down the right side. I also use Photo Gallery and Movie Maker.

Dear tcman50,
I recently upgraded my laptop from windows 7 sp1 home premium edition to windows pro 8 edition, and unless I'm mistaken...isn't at least PART of Windows Essentials included with windows 8 pro ?

NO, you have to download it just like in Win 7. You may be thinking of MS Security Essentials which is now called Windows Defender and IS included with Win 8.

Is there a way to uninstall the email app that is on the start screen? I know I can get rid of the tile, but I mean uninstall?

Right click the Tile and it should give you a choice at the bottom to uninstall.

I really like Windows Live Mail and its user interface. Ultimately, though, I changed over to Mozilla Thunderbird because I wanted to directly link to my Google calendar. My understanding is that you can't directly sync the Live Mail calendar with Google calendar. You can indirectly do it by creating a Live/Hotmail account with calendar, syncing between those, then linking to the Hotmail account calendar. I don't want/need a Hotmail account.

As I stated before there is a bug in WLM 2012using group contacts. It will not send group contacts if you have a WLM account and already established group contacts or even if you do not have a WLM account. Microsoft is working on this issue so if you find this happening to you, do not think it is something you did

The Windows 8 Mail App is pretty bad. Wish they would have made it as slick as Outlook.com because that websites makes me forget its a website and not an App. Does the essentials mail app tie right into your Outlook contacts, calendar and email? I am assuming it only runs in desktop mode as well?
