Solved I broke IE 10

Internet Explorer 10 used to work. Then I installed a bunch of stuff and it does not work anymore.

I went to MS website and they had some suggestions - tried them all, and it now works in Metro, and ONLY if I make it my default browser. Still won`t work in desktop mode even if it is the default browser.

Funny thing I created a new user for my wife and IE10 works fine in both Metro and Desktop when I log in as her.

I thought that the resetting IE back to all the default settings (one of the instructions from the MS website was on how to reset IE to its default settings) so I did that, and it still only worked in Metro for me, and then only when the default browser.

I use Chrome as my default browser and hardly used IE anyway. I am not comfortable with IE 10 in Metro mode so broken hearted that it is unavailable to me. It is just a little bothersome that this new system has a key element that does not work. I don`t know how long it was broke so can`t pin point what change may have done it in.

Downloaded Firefox - but it failed to load. Have not tried to make it work.

I will not be making IE 10 my default browser so if that is the only solution I`m sticking with Chrome.

For email I use Gmail mostly, and MS Outlook 2007 synchronized to my office email Why did MS stop including Outlook with their basic office suite? I`m glad Windows 8 supported my old Outlook 2007 program, I have about 1000 contacts in my phone that I could sync to Outlook 2007 on this system.

I did not like it when MS made me create a Hotmail or Live email account to sign into the app store, but I created one. Only going to use it for Windows log in and for the app store and not for any emailing. Wonder how long before spam starts to show up in my live account.

Anyone else have the same experience?

I can get IE 10 to work in Metro - but ONLY if it is DEFAULT. It is still broken if launched in the desktop. I`d rather have Chrome be my default and still have IE work if I want it to. Is that option not allowed?

I was running into Error 2203 on installs and un installs on Windows 8 and tried lots of suggested fixes, finally gave up and reloaded Windows 8 on a freshly formatted SSD, and lo and behold IE is now working on my system and living with Chrome being the default. Not sure what changed but so far so good.
