I upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8 pro. Now my windows mail won't send or receive emails. I have deleted my email accounts and have started from scratch but no luck. I have also rang my email provider and the reset my password, reset my i.p and they didn't have any luck also. Can anyone help??

you are trying to setup a live account, it will not work , you have to go in setting, add account and choose other account , unless it's an exchange server

No, not trying to set up a live account. I have been using windows mail for years with three or four email accounts set up on it. As soon as I installed windows 8 none of the accounts work. I have deleted them and re entered the accounts. There is something that windows 8 has done to the windows mail, that won't let accounts send or receive mail.

Have you found a solution for this problem? I have the same issue.

Similar problem. Mail will send, though. However, if any mails are on the server, download fails with the same error.

If I delete messages via webmail, Live Mail no longer fails but, of course, there is nothing to download. Undeleting a message returns the error.

Any ideas? At the moment, I'm having to use an iPod for work! Not exactly a win for Microsoft there...

No, that's weird. The error code means "failed to connect". I'm wondering if you're behind a web proxy of some kind?

I don't think so - only upgraded today and no settings have changed (unless Windows 8 has changed them!). Have been using Live Mail without issue previously.

And I agree, it's weird: there is no error unless there is a message on the server (although the program fails to download anything, it does show how many messages there are, so it must be connecting to some degree but failing on protocol, maybe?), which it makes it look as though some accounts are working fine. But it was easy to verify they aren't by sending an e-mail to one!

Partial screenshot indicates what I mean:

Checked with Outlook, which worked fine (but, unfortunately is not what I like to use, nor where all my saved messages live!).

So this appears to be a Live Mail-specific issue, for Windows 8, rather than a connection problem.

Sledge to crack nut but this might be fixed. Done as follows:

1. With WLM closed, rename the store folder so that it can't find it; start up the program and it will create a new folder of the old name with basic files in it. I guess one of these is the problem but without knowing which one, I instead went to...

2. Import e-mails across from the renamed folder. This took time but it gathered up all accounts and message rules (which needed redoing, however). All the folders needed moving by hand as they sit in an "imported folder" and many of the details just needed deleting (doubling up of all the separate inboxes for each account, for instance).

That's it. Seems to be working, though I'll be nervous for a while...

One thing: if you try this, after step one, add one of your non-working accounts and check it works before doing any importing to save you time.
