Windows 8 mail app and digital certificate

I'm trying to set up my email account in the mail app. Incoming and outgoing connections are both IMAP using SSL.

The programme tells me that I need that "To use this account you need to install a digital certificate on this PC. Contact you system administrator"

The email settings work fine with Outlook, Windows Live Mail, Apple Mail etc so why is the Mail app asking for this and more importantly, how do I get it working?

I think I may have found the answer - and it is router related.

I use a Draytek router at home and this message appears at home. If I am out and about using other wireless networks the mail app configures normally without any error messages.

I've had the same problem. After switching off SSL, it worked. So you'll have to install SSL certificates somehow

I ran into this same problem and finally figured it out. I had to download the dovecot.pem and exim4.crt files from my personal email server manually (via sftp) and then import them into Microsoft's certificate store as valid root authorities, since they are self-signed certificates. Once I did this, Windows 8 Mail would talk to my email server. So if you aren't your email server's system administrator, contact him for copies of your email server's imap and smtp SSL certificates (I use dovecot for imap, and exim4 for smtp, thus the name of my certificates) and put those on your Windows 8 system somewhere like in the Downloads folder and then import them to the certificates store. Oh, to get to certificates, type Windows-R then "mmc", to get the Microsoft Management Console, then Add/Remove Snapon on the Certificate snapon. Open it up until you see the root authorities certificate item and then right-click, Other Actions, Import.

I am trying to connect Outlook to an Exchange server. My friend has a business hosting exchange and websites and he runs the Exchange server that I use.

However, I get this error message upon trying to connect:

There is a problem with the proxy server's security certificate.
The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of
the target site portal.SERVERNAME.com
Outlook is unable to connect to the proxy server. (Error Code 0)

Will what you suggest help me?

This did and didn't help me,

When I spoke to my exchange administrator He gave me 4 certificates 1 for the mail.exchange.com and 1 for the dcserver.exchange, both installed as local computer, 2 of them were a passworded .prx file which had to be installed as current user, surely once all 4 were installed I connected instantly to the exchange.

I've just installed win 8 upgrade on to 2 laptops 1 xp 1 win7 and 2 desktops 1 win7 and 1 win vista and I found the way to connect to our 2008 sbs mail server is via the owa server address rather than the internal server address this has worked for all the installs I've just done.
