Windows 7 has an Anytime Upgrade option to upgrade to a higher version of Windows.
In Windows 8 it has been replaced by Add Features to Windows 8 in Control Panel.
There are three versions of Desktop Windows 8 - Core, Pro and Pro with WMC. When RP was released it was the Pro version and MS supplied another key to add WMC and this was done through Add Features to Windows 8. It got me to thinking (which can be dangerous). I installed Windows 8 Pro from TechNet and then it got dangerous. I went to the leaked link from here and found the PRO with WMC key. I pushed ahead and entered the key into Add Features to Windows 8 and after two quick reboots I had WMC installed and working great. My screen had a watermark which said I was running Windows 8 Pro with WMC. The bad part is it would not activate and said that key was BLOCKED. OK that's fine as it was a leaked key and MS blocked it.
I have reinstalled my TechNet Windows Pro and it is activated. I am installing all my software and tweaking my system. Now my next great thought. On Oct 26 I will buy a copy of Windows 8 Pro with WMC Update for $40 and use that key in Add Features to Windows 8 to do a fast upgrade. In theory this should work but its too early to tell.
Any thoughts?
