Can't activation my windows in Microsoft 8.1

Can't activation my windows in Microsoft 8.1 and it looks like my product id is located in the settings but not the systems window (win key, pause, break). Every time I hit activate window it just returns to the home screen. Help please.... I have restored my computer already and that didn't help.
