Finally get a day off, spending it trying to get Windows 8.1 to update and eventually upgrade to Windows 10. The laptop I'm working on is a Toshiba Satellite C55D-A5372D. Can't quite figure it out, but every attempt to update Win 8.1 hangs up. A view of installed updates shows a list of failed update attempts going back at least a month. So Windows own auto update hasn't been working. This reminds me of when you use to go onto MS's website and select patches individually, install, reboot then repeat again untill all critical, recommended and optional updates were installed.
The only thing I can think of that might interfere with updating or even upgrading is either Windows Defender, AVG (free version from Cnet) is/was blocking what I was trying to do. I even tried upgrading to Windows 10, but even that failed to work. Suggestions?
