Solved Windows 8-10 upgrade

I registered and got the little icon informing me that Windows 10 was ready to download and install. It went through the download process and it got stuck on "Preparing to install" step. I got the splash window, but it ran overnight and was still spinning the next morning. I restarted the system and the icon was gone. I doubt if 10 installed, but the first question is how do I know. Second, how can I re-initiate the install.

You would know if Win10 installed because the desktop would be very different. Win10 comes with a default Start Menu, and Win8 does not.

As to upgrading, you would do better to use the MS Media Creation Tool, and choose the Upgrade this PC option: Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool - Windows Help

Thanks Mark. I will go to 10 once I complete the upgrade. I thought while I was on 8, this would be the right forum.
