Deactivation Problem

Hi,
i recently bought a new laptop which came with a Windows 10 disc. My problem lies in that I formatted the ssd that held my Windows 8 on it. I was hoping to deactivate windows 8 with a view to sellng it. Am I scuppered since I no longer have it installed ? Is there any other way of deactivating ?

If all you are selling is the SSD, I would just do a Nuke with Dban. But personally I would the SSD in the new laptop, since the machine will run faster and cooler, unless you got an SSD installed at sell on the new unit. I use my old SSD for when I have to do Malware fixes on computers.

Now if you are talking about old laptop that you are selling and no longer have the Windows 8 OEM restore DVD's. I would just load Windows 10 on the unit, do not activate. If you have activated that machine under your Live ID, just go into your Live account and remove it from your ID.

The problem isn't with my ssd. I have already wiped it and sold it. I now want to sell my Windows 8 disc and key. My problem is I didn't deactivate it before wiping the ssd and I am askng if there is another way to dactivate it.

If the windows 8 disk you have is a retail disc then you should contact Microsoft and they may manually deactivate the licence for you.

If you have any other type of licence then this is not transferable in any manner.
