Hello and thanks in advance for replies - Edythe
Win. 8.... rec'd many ''security important'' updates yesterday all installed with no problem except KB3069114 (below) starts to install -reaches 8% -stalls & eventually shows ''red'' error about 'administrator's something or other ........ Any ideas ? do i really need this anyway?
[h=1]MS15-098: Description of the security update for Windows Journal: September 8, 2015 '' This security update resolves vulnerabilities in Windows. The more severe of the vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted Windows Journal file. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less affected than users who operate with administrative user rights. ''[/h]

Can not install the Windows update "Security Update for Windows (KB3069114)" with error 2147956498 "Archive components damaged." (command line: ""C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe" "C:\Users\***\Downloads\Windows8-RT-KB3069114-x64.msu" ")

When the update failed I got a "Code 80073712" error...

So I ran the following commands in a elevated Command Prompt:

First I ran: Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

This was very quick about 1 minute and the result showed component store corruption.

Next I ran: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

This took about 15 minutes and the result showed the component store was reparable

Finally I ran: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

This took about 30 minutes and the result showed the component store corruption was repaired.

See here for more info on the commands: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/26512-dism-fixing-component-store-corruption-windows-8-a.html

On the 8th it took two (automatic) tries for the security updates (including 3069114) to install - though I didn't track down the reason(s) why it doesn't appear to be anything out of the ordinary - that's just how uSoft's software "works"...IMHO, of course...

To get the 2nd attempt to work I did literally nothing but wait for the automated process to try again - about half an hour later, I think.

Post-post addendum: I should have noted that my system is a 64-bit 8.1 Pro system. See the post below.

Ahhhh...I was fooled a-GAIN by uSoft's version naming - I see that the update you mention is for Windows 8, not for Windows 8.1.

That update was not offered to my 8.1 system.

Silly me.

As such, other readers should ignore my ignorant post above mentioning how the original problem was "solved" on an 8.1 system...

Some days ago was released the update KB3096053 that solve the problem, and now it's can install the KB3069114 also by Update

Thank you, KB3096053 solved my issue. I own five computers on Windows 8.0 x64. KB3069114 installed on two of five without issue, but failed to install on the other three. I downloaded KB3069114 manually, but it still failed to install. After numerous retries over many days KB3069114 finally installed on two of the problematic three. I manually downloaded KB3096053 today, and installed it on the one remaining computer. To my delight, KB3069114 installed on the last of the five computers.
