Media creation tool - will 8.1 Pro image work with 8 key?

Hello. I want to create Windows 8.1 installation image. I have Windows 8 OEM license. From what I've read so far, I understand that the 8.1 image I create using this tool will work with my 8 key. Am I right?

But I'm not sure about versions, the tool allows various options, like: Windows 8.1, Windows 8.1 N, Windows 8.1 Pro, Windows 8.1 Pro N, Windows 8.1 Single Language. I think my version is just Windows 8. If I create Windows 8.1 Pro image, will it work with my key? Also I don't know whether my version is N or not, and whether it matters.

The difference is the 'pro' part.

You have windows 8 OEM license and can only upgrade with the same license to windows 8.1.

This means, if you try to install windows 8.1 pro, your key will not work.

Thanks. I got another question. How does this Windows 10 for free offer work? I know it will last for a year or to the end of this year. If I download iso from Microsoft and try to install it, will my Windows 8 key work? Will it work if I install the iso next year, after offer ends?

It does matter if it's N or Pro or whatever - check system properties for the edition you need.

The free offer is an Upgrade -- which you must do to an existing activated version of Win7/8/8.1. The free offer lasts until July 29, 2016.

It reuses your existing key as part of the upgrade. IF you get a prompt to enter a key, you're doing the Upgrade wrong and DO NOT enter any key.

Don't know, but it probably will not work and will require you to purchase a license.
