Solved Stop Windows Defender Updates

Hey guys today I restored by backup from win 10 through its downgrade option, and now when I use windows update to check it offers me a 133mb defender update even though I have avast premier installed. Avast was installed before I upgraded to 10 (and still have it now).

Every time I hide the defender update it still reappears for download, is there anyway to get it off the list for updates, so it stops appearing, I have tries various microsoft update repairs but none fix it. (like windowsupdate.diagcab, windowsupdatediagnostic.diagcab etc).

Is it safe to assume that Windows Defender disabled (off)?

Yes it is off. I have been using Avast for about 3 weeks now, upgraded to win 10 a few days ago, then downgraded back to win 8.1 tonight, and thats when the defender update happened.

Can you access Windows Defender user interface (see below)?



Go to to Tools > Options > Automatic scanning and check to see if "Automatically scan my computer (recommended)" is unchecked. Then go to Real-time protection and make sure "Use real-time protection (recommended)" is unchecked.

Yes, real protection is off, I think I know what the problem is, when I had win 10 installed I used a script stop the defender service, as when I try to restart it, it gives the following error:

Error 577: cannot verify digital signature.

Not too worry as I think I will just do a fresh reinstall of 8.1 in the morning as it is after midnight now.

Okay, I was going to ask you to disable Windows Defender in Services and rerun Windows Update which should stop Windows Defender from showing up in updates.
