windows update issues... (sticks at 0%)

long story short lve just got a new laptop, lve had it less than 2 days but lm hating windows 8.1 but l had no choice on the OS as thats all that was available..

now l manage to get a good amount of updates installed (53 left out of 140+), l did manage to get a few installed via windows update, but the majority l managed to use autopatcher which doesnt seem to want to install the last 53...

so my question is, how do l get windows update to work properly? and for that matter how can l stop it taking hours when it does start to download updates and actually get everything properly installed..

well l left it updating for 30 hours before it finished downloading all the updates.. took another 6hours to install them... considering its a brand new laptop not two days old lm not happy but lve not seen win7 on a laptop since they started pushing 8.
