No-one replied to this post and so the problem was never fixed.
(The updates continued to fail downloading or installing)
I upgraded to Windows 10 Home and thankfully didn't need to have the updates installed to upgrade.
[DEL]Back in April this year I downloaded two important updates:
1) Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 and 4.5.2 on Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 x64-based Systems (KB3023222)
2) Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 and 4.5.2 on Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 x64-based Systems (KB3032663)
However during the installation I encountered Error Code: 80073712
I tryed the installation again without anything else open and still the same result
I tryed the installation again having restarted and still the same result
I tryed the installation again after running the DISM Tool and still the same result
Yesterday (17/7/15) I tryed to download another important update:
1) Security Update for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB3004365)
However during the download I encountered Error Code: 800F081F
I tryed everything that I tryed previously and still the same result
I searched around and both of these error codes apparently mean that a file needed by Windows Update is either damaged or missing
I thought I might as-well start a thread about it on these forums as not being able to download/install security updates isn't a good thing
