Solved Can I transfer the win8 licence from an UPGRADED machine

I have 2 laptops:
- laptop A has vista
- laptop B has win8 (I upgraded from win7)

When I upgraded B I set up a dual boot so win7 is still there.

My question is, can I transfer the win8 licence from B to A? (or is the licence tied to B like win7 which came with it)

My reason is that windows 10 will be free for both laptops then :)

Perfect, it even refers to "Windows 8 Pro $15/$40 Upgrade Offer" which is my case :)

I presume everything will be genuine?

Yes.
One more quick question...

To make life easier could I just boot windows 7, start the upgrade, use the bootable media option, grab the win10 license key, install on the other laptop :)

(rather than messing around swapping keys and using my old win7 install instead of my current win8 install)

Sounds like what you want to end up with is Win10 on both machines, right?

Problem is that you can not:
1) Upgrade from Vista to Win10 -- free upgrade is only for Win7/8/8/1 machines. Haven't seen anything posted from MS indicating that it's even going to be possible to "upgrade" to Win10 from XP or Vista.
2) Use the Win8 license already in use on machine B, ALSO on machine A -- as that would involve installing Win8 on machine A and, as with Win10, you can not upgrade Vista to Win8 and retain anything.

Essentially, installing Win10 on machine A is going to be a clean install, for which you will have to purchase a Win 10 license, and none of your apps will be retained.

I am going to do a clean install over vista on A.
And it would be easier to just upgrade B

What I am trying to do is use B's win8 and win7 license on 2 different machines as a path to getting 2 win10 licenses for use on A and B

You can't use the Win7 license from machine B on machine A, because if it came preinstalled, that license is permanently tied to machine B.

However, once you restore Win7 to machine B, there's nothing to prevent you from using the copy of win8 (and license) you used for machine B to install it on machine A.
