After some sort of automatic update overnight, I started receiving a blue popup message telling me to activate my copy of Windows. I first thought nothing of the message and followed the instructions, but the activate windows button under PC settings gave me an error. I left it alone figuring it was a one time issue, but as the popup happened again, I realized that the issue needed to be resolved. I looked up the error code I was given and was told to activate by phone. I did so and after the automated operator said "if there are no errors, your product was activated successfully" I continued using my computer as normal, since there were no errors. The popup came up again, and at this point I was stumped. I looked online for more solutions, but almost every one of them was either unresolved or solved via the phone activation. One said to restart my computer, but that didn't work either. I contacted Microsoft support yesterday, and they deemed that the issue was a problem with the activation code, and redirected me to Dreamspark, where I received my code initially. With no response from Dreamspark yet, and a computer that irritates me to use for any application as the popup is extremely intrusive, I am looking for other solutions to this issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Please see the first thread and provide a diagnostic report.

That error is normally due to the software licencing service not executing - check the report for Service Available - should be true.

0x800700C1 error code implies file authentication issue... try running in command prompt:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
and then
sfc /scannow

- to make sure all components passes verification.

After restarting my computer, the system settings accessed via Win+Break says that my version of Windows is activated. Thank you so much for all your help. I will mark this as resolved.
