Problem with Windows8.1 KB3000850 install

Howdy!
tl;dr - I can't get the install to finish on reboot.

When I tried to install this update via Windows Update, it repeatedly failed to start. I downloaded the three MSU files mentioned in the additional information. The two smaller updates installed fine, but I have a problem with Windows8.1-KB3000850-x64.msu. It will finish the initial installation fine, but upon rebooting, it reports that it can't finish the install and that it is undoing all the changes.

Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Davey

Cliff,
Thanks for the suggestion. After Windows Update failed to start repeatedly, I went to that KB page and downloaded the 3 stand-alone update files that make up a manual install:
Windows8.1-KB3014442-x64.msu,
Windows8.1-KB3003057-x64.msu,
Windows8.1-KB3000850-x64.msu

I installed the first two files, but the KB3000850 patch won't won't finish after rebooting. After reading the KB article several times, it doesn't seem like there is much helpful trouble shooting. The troubleshooting link doesn't seem to apply to my problem either.

I assume that KB3000850 is an update that I shouldn't just ignore. The only thing I can come up with is to uninstall the first two patches and try a different order, but I'm reluctant to do that without some consultation here.

I just got back from work(late shift my time). If you are using a 3rd party AV try turning it off until you get the update installed. Sometimes other Anti-viruses block an update from completing, because it sees the changes being made to the system at boot.
If you're using Defender or it isn't the 3rd party AV, Check if you have this:
[h=3]Prerequisites[/h]To apply this update, you must first install update 2919355 (Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 update: April 2014)
on Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2.

Cliff,
I see your suggestions. I'll work on them.

I found a new oddity - As I mentioned before, at reboot, Windows tries to complete the install, but it posts an error message that says that it could not finish the changes and will undo everything. Windows finishes booting and I can log in.

However, when I looked in my update history, it says that KB3000850 was applied successfully. This log entry exists even though Update still is offering it as a needed update. Just FYI - more stuff that baffles me.

There is that problem lately of windows update offering already installed updates. You could try this:
