mine = ** REMOVED ** for Win 8.1 pro

I Googled the installation key for Win 8.1 pro and they gave some but they all began with G and none were like the one above which worked for me.

I was wondering why the one above was not listed.

Also is the a G...... that works and if it too would work for me.

Once installed I use my Win 8 key I got when I paid $44 to upgrade to activate the installation.

Obviously my question is just to learn as the one I have functions.

error

I apologize if I was not supposed to display the number as I assume that is why it was removed. I thought it was common knowledge. Sincere apologies again.

I read the links over but could not see where I am doing it differently. If it is easier your way I wish I could see the difference.

My keys are from the purchase of 44$ to upgrade. My pc came with Win 7 loaded .

I did notice there are 2 different Win 8.1 pro #'s; one for 8.1 and one for 8.1 with WMC.

I never saw the second before so always used just the 8.1 and after installation I used the key for the WMC I was given at the time of purchase which worked.

The admin was likely just playing it safe incase that was your personal product key. You don't want anyone knowing what it is. Maybe I misunderstood your post. It sounded like you were using a generic install key and then activating with your other key. Where did you notice the 8.1 Pro with MC? That is not an official ISO. You cannot install with a Media Center key, not legally anyway. It can only be used with 8.x Pro through Add Features to add Media Center. I see you have an upgrade key, is this the procedure your using to install windows? http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/13375-clean-install-windows-8-upgrade.html

imaging

I saw your note on my phone as I was imaging with the wrong info about the WMC.
I could swear I read that there was a key for 8.1 and another for 8.1 with WMC but I stopped all and removed the second key.
In the past I insert the disc I made from the 8.1 iso and use the generic key to install and the 8 key I got when I bought the upgrade to activate. I then use the WMC key I got at purchase to activate the WMC.
I won't be changing anything now and just hope I have the right generic key for 8.1 There was a smudge so it was not clear but I had a note in a pc so I know it is ok.
I am imaging due to the 21 updates from Windows today.
I am all set and thank you. Tough road back tracking but better than having misinformation.

just hope I have the right generic key for 8.1

Download and create windows 8.1 media - link in sig below
There is no longer a need to use any generic key - the new media reads both windows 8 and windows 8.1 product keys..

Launch setup media and type in your product key.. that's it
