'activate windows' message

I get the blue screen to 'activate windows'. I click on the button to go to settings, enter my product key, then it tells me 'this key did not work. Check it and try again' What do I do?

Try running command prompt as admin and enter these commands

net start sppsvc

If it says service started sucessfully then run the following:

slmgr.vbs /ato

When I run net start sppsvc I get 'service is not responding to the control function.'

Run services.msc and see if Remote Procedure Call (RPC) is running...

what do you mean 'software protection'. I don't run things from the command prompt.

NB Stop any Anti-virus programs while doing this....

I don't know what you mean...my status for that is empty. If I try to start it, I get 'service did not respond to the start control request.'

OK, the problem is the components it depends on is not communicating with it - it could be registry or corrupt sytem files - this error can occur with any service - best would be to do a system restore.
