8.1 Activation

I have re-installed Win 8.1 and other programs using the disk image created in Windows. Under PC and Devices-PC info it tells me "Activation - Windows is activated". When I go to Lock Screen (for example) the message on the screen is"You need to activate Windows before you can personalise your PC". When I try to actvate Windows the message is always "Windows can't activate. Try again later". I believe that this may be why Windows will no longer install updates. I have been to Microsoft 3 times - each time I was told the problem is now fixed but it never has been. I would really appreciate any suggestions.

Look under system(right click This PC choose properties) at the bottom what does system activation say here...you can also try the change activation key on right bottom if you have it at hand. To double check you key call up admin cmd prompt and type
Code:
powershell "(Get-WmiObject -query ‘select * from SoftwareLicensingService’).OA3xOriginalProductKey"

Thanks for the help but I think this is a lost cause. The command prompt returned no result. System activation under properties tells me that Windows is activated, but there are 2 indications that it is not activated.
1. System properties tells me that I can't change properties until the system is activated(which is not possible because the system seems to think that it "is"activated)
3. Updates will not install - most likely because the system thinks it is activated.
I think I will do a total claean install of Wndows.
Sorry for the delay in replying but it was the middle of the night here and thanks again for trying.

There are customization options locked out if you don't "verify your identity on this PC". Some sync options will be locked out also. If you skipped that step during setup that may explain some of your issues.

Sorry I'm a bit late...

Generally this happens during the grace period... Windows gives you 30 days to activate - during that time system properties sees Windows as activated or more appropriately, "Genuine", yet in reality it is merely a temporary genuine status - Windows is in fact unactivated.

A diagnostic report would have helped here.

Anyway, hope you got all sorted with the re-install.
