Windows update KB3000850 causing a problem with my machine

I had installed the update mentioned in the title, installed fine with no problems. When I went to shutdown my laptop, the screen would go off like it normally does, but the system does not shutdown. The power light still stays on, and I see a flicker of the HDD light but they do not turn off. I had left it for about 10 minutes, but it had still not turned off. Any ideas why this is happening? I saw that Avast was causing some problems with this update, but I do not use it.

Check your power settings to see if it is set to shut down. The update might of set it to sleep.
