Solved Start screen

Start screen not loading? Charms not showing? HELP

Did you recently install the optional update KB3000850 by chance?

There appears to be a problem randomly happening after installing this update where Windows won't load to the Start Screen/Desktop for some people (myself included).

What version of windows do your really have installed. Your specs say internet explorer as the OS but that is a browser.

If you do have Windows 8 installed, Windows key + X and select Command Prompt (Admin)
Type sfc /scannow
When completed type Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth it will take a while to complete and appear to be frozen a 20% but it is not.
Run the sfc /scannow again
Reboot the computer when all completed and see if your problem is resolved.

Thanks Nucci and Loving Windows for your help. The problem resolved itself. When I returned to my laptop there was a msg to update and restart. I did that and the Start Screen loaded. I'm keeping your suggestions for future use. Happy Thanksgiving!

Sorry to drag up old post, but did you get a fix for this?
I have the same, that KB prevents start screen layout. Just wondered if you got a fix, as we worked around it by uninstalling that update, although I have a concern that whatever caused it will appear in a later update!
