Solved Can I Make Windows Tell Me It is Currently Updating?

Periodically my browser will freeze up for no apparent reason, I will try to reset my modem etc only to realize later when I try to shut the computer down that Windows finally posts a statement that I cannot shut down as Windows is downloading updates or installing them. WHY can't Windows stop being passive aggressive and actually inform me that it is downloading or installing updates to explain it's sluggishness? I tried to get around it by stopping automatic updates but felt that could be dangerous if an urgent one came out. Is there an app that can inform me or a trick I am missing. Thanks.

Indeed, but it does not work in 8 anymore, at least that is what people say.

It only shows the notification about new updates at login screen. Showing new updates notification at login screen is absolutely useless and removing Windows Update's notification icon from system tray makes the option to notify us about the new updates broken. What's the use of the option if it doesn't notify us?

It works, I have mine set to notify me of new Windows updates so I can install them when I want. I am not only notified at login but also periodically by a popup at the taskbar. I do not use any third party tools for this, this is Windows notification all by itself.

Well I do not use it, but I guess, people need to make sure, that Windows Update in Action Center is checked.
