Update in batches of 5 at a time, you may find the one that is causing the problem and try to install it by itself. Net Framwork updates are usually the ones that cause the problem.

OMG. I'm relieved and pissed off at the same time.

So regardless of posting this thread, if I couldn't find a real solution, I was just going to try to do half at a time. Then narrow it down to the problem.

So I unchecked all the security, optional, and recommended updates. As well as IE 11 and the Net Framework. So only installed normal important updates.

It worked.

I then installed the security updates, recommended, and optional.

It worked.

In the end it was IE-11 that was causing the problem the whole time.
Cumulative security update for IE 11 W8.1 - KB2962872

Meaning that one stupid IE11 update was causing Windows to undo all of the rest of the actual necessary updates. And what I mean by actual necessary is that I don't even use IE11.

I'm probably never going to open IE anyway. I use Chrome which is far superior to IE in every way.

I have been having this issue as well. It got to where it wouldnt do anything. Windows said "The updates couldnt be completed. Undoing changes. Please dont turn off your PC. So, I had to refresh my PC. Do you think it will go through this time?

lf you tried to install all the updates and they failed and are reverting changes, let it revert, it may take a while but better than refreshing your system and losing every thing.
Install the updates in small batches let's say 5 at a time if you have many to install. Optional updates are always the last ones to install.
This method would be much quicker and would leave you some hair.

Nucci, how long does it usually take for it to say "Restarting" when installing updates?

It depends on the type and size of the updates that are being configured and installed. I have seen some on my system take around 5 minutes. If a massive update like we just had it took 10 minutes.
