hi I just updated my laptop to windows 8.1 I had several issues early this week and posted them on maintenance, so if you wish to read up on my progress please do any info is much appreciated. Fast forward to today, I updated to windows 8.1 successfully and it seem to fix all my problems all at once HURRAY. So I checked things out like anyone would do and saw I needed 5 more updates ( mouse and keyboard, windows defender and a few other) after they were down I manually restarted the laptop, but its been rebooting now for approx. 1 hour or so. all I see is the HP logo and the little circle is still going. I called HP for support and was told there would be a fee because my warranty just ran out. GOT A SUGGESTION?
Thanks Bailey

Try to boot into Safe Mode, usually tapping F8 at boot on a HP, and the select a restore point prior to when you installed those 5 updates you are talking about. What is the full computer make and model?

I held down the power button until the computer shut off, waited a few minuets. started it again and it prompted me for my password and it all worked fine, looked around doesn't look like anything went wrong I'm guessing the 5 updates went ok. Note: after the updates were downloaded and installed I still was looking around at some of the changes windows 8.1 made, then I did the restart so I'm guessing that what was happening was that the system was doing what ever changes that were required for those updates, but possibly just keep on show it was configuring. I see what happens the next time I turn it back on.

As long as it is working now is what counts, weird though.

All is working good, I went to updates and I had 1 important update for a Advanced Micro Devices Graphics Adaptor WDDM1.2 AMD Radeon HD 7520G, but it came back as error 80070103 in short it reads trying to install a driver that's already installed or a driver of less compatible. If you google the error code you'll understand better. I googled it and read not to install drivers from window's update but to download and install directly from manufacturer, so how would I even begin to find out if I already have the driver where do I look?
Which is it anyway a graphics card or a driver ?
Thanks
Bailey

You are so rite; I went to device manager it show's AMD Radeon HD 7520G, if I knew how to take a screen shot I would show you. So I guess I just go back to updates and right click on the update and hide.
Thanks
Bailey

You are quite right, drivers should always be updated through the manufacturers site. I always hide them in windows update, experience has shown me that drivers through WU do cause problems.

You can disable downloading drivers from Microsoft---

In Control Panel click on Devices and Printers & right click your computer name & choose---

Then disable it in the window that pops up---

Hope this helps. :)
