When I rebooted just now there were (i think) 13 updates Win (8.1u1) wanted to install. I've rebooted several times since Tuesday but this time was the first any update mention was made. All seemed normal, and eventually I was back to the lock screen and my password was accepted just fine. But rather than going to the desktop, i get a black screen. Once i move the mouse i get a cursor as well but cannot get past this screen. Ctl+alt+del gets the dialog up and selecting task mgr i briefly see tskman window but back to black screen in milliseconds.
Same result after several tries.
Win+x (or anything else) does nothing.
Tried holing shift while clicking restart from lock screen and I get advanced startup but neither safe mode nor sys restore work...it reboots and hangs before lock screen in each case.
ANYONE?????
