Hi, my PC died I had windows 8.1 pro with media centre.
When ever I wanted a clean install I would use the 8.1 basic disc from my laptop, then press add features enter my proper key and all was good.
My new PC comes tomorrow with 8.1 installed, will my key upgrade it to pro with media centre or will that be tied to my dead PC, I will be logging into the same Microsoft account.
thanks.

Hello Wrogg, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You'll have two keys.

One key is for Windows 8.1 Pro that you would use whenever you install Windows. Since this is an OEM PC that came with Windows preinstalled, your Windows 8.1 Pro key will be embedded in the BIOS/UEFI and automatically detected and entered during installation.

The other key is for Windows 8.1 Media Center Pack. This key cannot be used to reinstall Windows with. Instead, you could use the tutorial below on the new laptop to select the I already have a product key option, and enter your Windows 8.1 Media Center Pack key to add it to the new laptop. It won't matter that you used it on the old laptop since it's dead.

Hope this helps, :)

Yeh it worked a treat. I just put the Windows 7 upgrade key in first, that updated it to pro, then put the media key in.
Worked a treat!
Thanks for the reply.

Actually it wasn't quite that simple! I got a pop up saying license key is in use on another PC. The automated lady on the phone sorted it though it's activated again now
