windows update not working

i wanna update my pc but the windows 8 update icon wont even open when i click on it. please help.

Try accessing the windows update through the control panel. It's the only way I update windows.

I'm having the same problem and it says it's a 0x80080005 error. It won't update the Windows Defender definitions. Anyone know what to do? Thanks.

Any Prior Security Software still installed or pre-installed when you purchased the machine?

A possible reason for this problem is that you have conflicting security software installed fully or partially on the PC. Remove all other security software from the PC.
You may need to use a cleanup tool to remove your prior security software:
