I have found many threads about this (common) problem. My motherboard died, and I replaced it with a new one, a new processor, and added an ssd while I was at it. The old C: drive is intact, but not installed - so I could potentially reinstall it and and use it temporarily. But I would like to have a new install present. So I did a new install with my old Windows 8 pro disk and key. It did not activate. I followed the instructions here http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/24636-activate-windows-8-phone.html and after reading the string of numbers the recording told me my product was not valid. I did not hang up, as it says at the end of the instructions, but microsoft did. I can't seem to find a simple support number to call and talk to an actual rep to tell them what happened.
I would like to do that. But I guess that I could reinstall the old HDD with the previous (activated) installation of Win8 on it and deactivate it? Would that allow me to then remove the old HDD and boot from the SSD and have my key work, or activate by phone?
It seems like it would be easiest to just talk to a rep, as that solution worked for many people on this forum with the same problem it appears. How could I get a Win8 activation rep or tech support on the telephone?
TIA!
