Windows Updates

Every time that I get a major series of updates for Windows 7, I check Windows 8 and see if there are any updates listed. When I open up Windows Update through the Control Panel, it tells me there are no updates. So I then select Check for Updates and once it's complete, lo and behold, there's a swag of updates.

It does this every time for some reason, yet with two Windows 7 PCs and one Vista laptop, I'm alerted to the updates every time. I have automatic updates selected, so there should be no reason for this to happen. Does anyone else find this happening?
